The Sean McCarthy Live Passionately Foundation was established in memory of Sean Michael McCarthy. Sean was active in athletic events from an early age. He enjoyed sports, the friendships that are born from team building and fair competition, and the rewarding feeling that comes from knowing you have given your best effort. Sean was a good athlete. He was not exceptional, but he was known for striving to compete at the best of his ability. He participated in soccer, basketball and track prior to high school. He earned varsity letters for track, cross country and wrestling in high school. Sean was not just a good student however; he was an exceptional student. He was the top student in his middle school and high school and earned distinction as a scholar at a highly selective, prestigious college. He willingly assumed leadership responsibilities and diligently met his duties. He was President of his high school class and a member of the honor society. He was recognized as a scholar athlete by the NJ Athletic Association. He was considerate, compassionate and socially responsible. His opinions were shaped by rational, well-reasoned and open-minded thinking.
Sean met and fell in love with Jennifer Polidoro while attending the College of William and Mary. They married in 2009, purchased a home and settled in Richmond, VA where Jennifer taught high school English and Sean served as the Director of Research for the Virginia Tourism Corp.
On September 5, 2010 Sean McCarthy died suddenly while completing a half-marathon race. Sean was a healthy, fit and well-conditioned athlete. He was 27.
